Collaboration between the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, (laboratory of Biochemistry and Glycobiology) of Ghent University and collegues of the epartment of Biochemistry, Karnataka University, Dharwad 580 003 (India).

The laboratory of Biochemistry and Glycobiology was established in October 2002 as part of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology of Ghent University.

Objectives:

The research involves a multidisciplinary study of carbohydrate-binding proteins (lectins) and some other plant proteins that are capable of interacting with endogenous or foreign (macro)molecules. The emphasis of the research is on protein-carbohydrate interaction and their involvement in signalling processes in plants or in plant protection.
