Introduction

Ghent University has identified India as a priority region for academic collaboration. That is why the university authorities decided to set up the India Platform UGent. The Platform is affiliated with the University’s International Relations Office. It builds on the existing ties that many Ghent University researchers and departments have with Indian partners. The Platform will function at different levels:

A Platform for Academic Collaboration

  • Facilitate academic collaboration with India
  • Stimulate collaboration between the academic and non-academic world
  • Train and exchange teachers, researchers and students

A Platform for Research and Education

  • Develop innovative educational programmes on the relation between Europe and India
  • Study cultural differences between Europe and India
  • Create awareness of Europe as a cultural and socio-economic entity in India
  • Develop and implement cross-cultural training and consultancy for business, international politics and academia

A Platform of Services and Facilities

  • Collect and provide information about possible collaborations and potential partners at Ghent University and at Indian institutions
  • Provide a contact point for Indian students, faculty and personnel at Ghent University
  • Be an intermediary between Ghent University and Belgian and Indian government bodies and embassies
  • Provide service to the Belgian media on India-related topics and vice versa
  • Accompany and/or support of UGent delegations to India and Indian delegations at UGent
